Laurel is about a fifteen minute drive from Billings and a popular location for people commuting to work in Billings. It is known as "the City of Lights" and has impressive firework displays on both the 4th of July and New Years Eve. Laurel also has a Walmart Supercenter and Yellowstone river access.​ ​It marks the beginning of a scenic, 60-minute drive to Red Lodge, an idyllic mountain town with a ski resortsummer rodeo and a number of local events. 

Some highlights are:

Amusement Park Drive-In Theater: The only drive-in movie theater in Billings and the surrounding areas. It has two screens and is open daily during the Summer. 

Starlite Roller Rink: Indoor roller skating rink, open year-round. 

​Fat Jack's: Local brewery and tap room.

Laurel Golf Club: Private golf club established in 1968.

Laurel Airport: Local airport with a renovated runway that won an award for construction of an asphalt surface in 2001. It is home to over 100 planes.
